Campers
Ready to start camp? Please review the information below to make sure our virtual Career Camp is a right match for you. If you prefer to attend camp in person, please feel free to let your Vocational Rehabilitation Representative aware of your preference. We will have limited availability for in-person Career Camps, but we can make accodations, as needed.
Camper Goals
Resume and/or a master job application;
Mock interview practice with notes on strong points and areas for future improvement;
Knowledge of the various methods for submitting a job application or resume whether online or paper-based applications;
Identify their strengths and areas to improve in regards to school and employment;
Identify appropriate ways to dress for success for interviews and the workplace and how to practice best hygiene habits;
Identify major employers where they live and what each employer contributes to the local economy and employment rate;
Knowledge of how to effectively communicate with peers and colleagues and practice active listening skills;
How to make well-educated decisions and when to ask for assistance and how;
How to navigate the job application and hiring process and when to disclosure disability or request accommodations;
Knowledge of the basic foundation of the laws, IDEA and ADA, and how each protects their interests in school and employment;
A check incentive for completing all hours of Career Camp (see check incentive eligibility further below for more information);
Camper Responsibilities
Notifying their Camp Counselor of any changes to address, phone number or employment status;
Attending camp and being actively involved in camp activities to the best of their skills and abilities;
Providing documentation needed or requested by ServiceSource or the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation in order to determine eligibility for services and/or maintain services;
Notifying their Camp Counselor if they no longer want to receive services;
Maintaining respect, fairness, and courtesy towards camp staff and fellow campers;
Speaking openly on all subjects that could affect their participation and/or benefiting from camp services.
Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) Criteria
Students must be referred for camp services by their Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation representative and meet the following criteria:
Be between the ages of 14-21 years old
Have documentation that indicates that they are a student with a disability, which requires the student:
be in a secondary, post-secondary, or other recognized educational program; and
be at least 14, but not older than 21 years of age; and
be eligible for, and receiving, special education or related services under part B of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA); or
be an individual with a disability receiving services from a Florida secondary, post-secondary, or other recognized educational program under a 504 plan or for purposes of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act.
Have written consent from the parent or guardian before enrolling in these services.
Be known to the Florida Division of Vocational Rehabilitation and maintain an active status within the case management system during camp services.
Technological Requirements
To participate in Career Camp, campers must have access to the following minimal technological requirements:
Reliable high speed internet access - this does not have to be at your home. You can visit library, a community center, or any place that offers free wireless internet access. WiFi Map is a great place to find free internet access near you.
A reliable PC, Mac, or tablet that can connect to the internet and browse websites and ability to watch videos on YouTube.
The following are strongly recommended technological requirements, but accommodations can be made by your Camp Counselor, if you do not have the following:
Access to a printer;
Ability to download files from the internet.
Technical Skill Requirements
Are you familiar with how to do the following? If so, you are ready to participate in Career Camp!
Are you able to:
Use an internet browser to access the internet and view websites (Google Chrome, Safari, Internet Explorer, Edge, Firefox);
View videos on YouTube;
That's it! For Campers who have never used Zoom before, we will provide training on how to use this simple service on the first day of camp.

Attendance and Participation
There will be no in-person meetings, as the camp will be completely online using the Career Camps website and Zoom. If a camper cannot attend a scheduled camp day, they may be allowed to make up that day in order to qualify for the attendance and participation check incentive. Campers who cannot attend on certain days or times may work with their Camp Counselor to make alternative arrangements.
Check Incentive Award Eligibility
Campers who complete all hours of Career Camp will receive a check incentive that will be delivered via USPS to their home address.
Additionally:
Your Vocational Rehabilitation Representative must have sent your referral to Career Camp, before the first day of Camp.
Check incentives will be awarded on a prorated basis based on missed attendance. Campers may be given the opportunity to make up missed time and only after successful completion will they become eligible for the check incentive.
